Synopsis courtesy of Goodreads:
The hotly-anticipated sequel to the New York Times bestsellerThe Selection.
Thirty-five girls came to the palace to compete in the Selection. All but six have been sent home. And only one will get to marry Prince Maxon and be crowned princess of Illea.
America still isn’t sure where her heart lies. When she’s with Maxon, she’s swept up in their new and breathless romance, and can’t dream of being with anyone else. But whenever she sees Aspen standing guard around the palace, and is overcome with memories of the life they planned to share. With the group narrowed down to the Elite, the other girls are even more determined to win Maxon over—and time is running out for America to decide.
Just when America is sure she’s made her choice, a devastating loss makes her question everything again. And while she’s struggling to imagine her future, the violent rebels that are determined to overthrow the monarchy are growing stronger and their plans could destroy her chance at any kind of happy ending.
My Thoughts:
6 girls remaining for a shot at the crown and Prince Maxon's heart, but ironically enough, it was MAXON who stole MY heart in this sophomore release!
No seriously, Maxon was my absolute favourite part of this sequel, and I was completely Team Aspen at the end of The Selection, but Maxon stole the show this time around! I feel as though his character had the most growth in The Elite and America may not have this competition in the bag like she first assumed. I may have some competition for being Maxon's number 1 fan, America has definitely fallen for the sweet, charming Prince. It was nice to see Aspen finally start to really fight for America in this instalment, but it might just be to little to late.
There is a little bit of action in this sequel- the Palace is under attack by rebel resisitors, but wonderful balls, beautiful gowns and tons of romance is what kept me turning the pages. America doesn't make any new admirers (not that she needs any with Aspen and Maxon both eagerly waiting on the sidelines) but she does make one very powerful and ruthless enemy (who? Well you'll have to read to find out) yes I totally just did that to you, haha!
After the ending of The Elite, I know that book #3 is going to be nail-biting because it seems our beloved love-triangle has bloomed into a bit of square haha, and America is going to have to FINALLY start playing the game and competition. Three now remain but only ONE will make it to the end, may the odds be ever in her favour. (I'm sorry I really just couldn't help myself).
Read this series before it hits the small screen, you won't be disappointed!
Happy Reading!!!

ReplyDeleteYou have to Kellie! It's just as good as The Selection, if not more! :)
DeleteI just got this book and I can't wait to read it. I was totally Team Maxon in the first book so I am glad that you liked him even better in this one!!!
ReplyDeleteO trust me, you won't be switching teams after reading this one! Haha!
ReplyDeleteI haven't even picked up my ARC of The Selection. This was such an awesome review !
ReplyDeleteI just finished this one. I do agree that it did set up an interesting situation for book #3 but I think I was a tad disappointed. Great action and definitely hard to guess what happens next. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
ReplyDeleteso i just finished this one. I was a bit disappointed in that the plot didn't seem to go anywhere and there was no real movement in the story. I got so tired of wishy washy america by the end of it. LOL
ReplyDeleteGreat review - I'm looking forward to book 3 though!

I just read this book and I agree about Maxon. He was great in this book and I also felt a little bad for him because America was all over the place. I still don't trust any of the girls left, everyone is out for themselves. I can't wait for the third book, there is so much that could happen.
ReplyDeleteGreat review!
So excited to read this!! Love this review :)
ReplyDeleteEEP! I can't wait to finally read this( been waiting for over a year!)
ReplyDeleteI never really paid much attention to this series since my early exposure consisted of people making comparisons to the TV shows The Bachelor and Who wants to Marry a Millionaire. I didn't like the shows and thought the premise behind them in a "real life" setting just didn't resonate with me (I'm being nice). I have since seen some great reviews for the series, including yours, and might eventually give is a chance. It seems there is quite a bit more to it than just The Bachelor-ish premise and in a YA Dystopian setting I might enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteLove that you fell in love with Maxon this time. I was always Team Maxon, so I felt like this was the perfect book for me. Aspen was never an option to me. Thanks for the awesome review!
ReplyDeleteYes, I loved how the parts with the rebels grew, and how America discovered more of their goals. Great review!
