ARC Review: The Selection by Kiera Cass

The Selection by Kiera Cass
NOW AVAILABLE!!!
Publisher: HarperTeen
Synopsis courtesy of Goodreads:
For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in the palace and compete for the heart of the gorgeous Prince Maxon.

But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.

Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself- and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.

My Thoughts:
I loved this book! The Bachelor meets Divergent/Hunger Games meets The Luxe series. Haha that's quite the combo right?

I found the setting of this book fascinating because it felt contemporary but it's actually dystopian with court intrigue. What this read lacks in action it more than makes up for in character development. America is an underdog that everyone will root for. She's down-to-earth and beautiful without knowing it, but that's what makes you beautiful, right One Direction? Haha. She has morals and puts others needs before her own (much like Katniss).

If for no other reason you have to read this book for the love triangle. I'm so jealous of America getting to pick between PRINCE Maxon and Aspen. Personally, I think I'm team Aspen because he represents rebellion. He's wonderful and exciting all at the same time.

There is much backstabbing and corruption within the Palace walls of this read, as 35 girls fight for the opportunity to win the heart of the gorgeous Prince Maxon, but trust me, you'll be rooting for America the entire time, even when she doesn't seem to want to root for herself.

I can't wait to see where Cass will be taking these characters in book 2!

If your looking for a fun, light read grab yourself a copy of The Selection!

Happy Reading!!!

  2. I personally HATED this book! I thought characterization (for both the protagonist and the love interests) and the world building were incredibly lacking. Glad you enjoyed the read, though. :)

  4. I've been indecisive about this book. I've been wanting to read it but at the same time I'm hesitant because I've seen so many mixed reactions to this. Though I have noticed that with most people its either a love it or hate it kind of deal. Thanks for the review! I'll try to check it out sometime!

  5. I just finished up this book and I completely agree with you on the greatness of this book! Although I am team Maxon because he's so unique (from other male characters I've read before) and genuine (not that Aspen isn't a fine choice as well). I cannot wait to read The Elite and see what happens next!
