My Thoughts:
Perfect for fans of Sons of Anarchy!
I'm going to be completely honest, I've never really understood the fascination with mobster/gang/crime life, although I know this is a popular genre in pop culture, I've always found it hard to sympathize with this lifestyle.
With that said, I did enjoy Rough Justice which read like a motorcycle gang soap opera, or a complete season of Sons of Anarchy. We're given the story through the dual third-person-narratives of Arianne and Jagger, and I found both characters likeable narrators.
Arianne has grown-up in the biker lifestyle under the brutal leadership of her cruel father, where men set the rules and women are viewed only as property. As a result she has built a strong shell around herself, determined to escape the lifestyle and win her freedom and a normal life. But than she meets (or more appropriately is "captured") by Jagger and his rival gang, and begins to see that not all men in this life are like that of the men she grew up around. But will this be enough to entice her to stay?
Readers will love Jagger. He's respectful of women, level headed and strategic, but make no mistake, he's also an Alpha of his club and it's his duty to put his club first above all others, but will he be able to do that when he can't keep his mind, or hands, off their rival leader's daughter? I found him to be a complex character, I may have missed it while reading, but I couldn't pin down an exact age, I pictured him to be in his late twenties/early thirties which I thought was kind of young to be president and leader of a biker gang, but at the same time he's confident and capable, and I really liked that he wasn't blood thirsty for revenge all the time.
The chemistry between these two was sizzling, I really enjoyed the some-what Romeo and Juliette theme they had going, and I was rooting for them all the time, even when I was also rooting for Arianne to follow through with her plan to skip town and build a new life.
There's plenty of action and romance in this first instalment and Castille does a great job of keeping the plot and story moving along at a welcoming pace, with her witty and sarcastic dialogue. But Castille has also added a few plot twists and secret moles to add a blend of mystery to Rough Justice as well. Trust me, there's enough story in the book to keep you turning pages to the end.
Even though, I'm sure most readers will already know this, I feel I should warn that there is quite a bit of gang violence, and references to sexual assaults, in this read, so if you shy away from violence, this may not be the read for you.
The ending will leave readers satisfied and I look forward to book two, while reading Rough Justice I found myself thinking a couple times, I'd like to see more of Dawn and Cade's story, so I'm glad they're getting their own book.
If you're a fan of biker gang stories with alpha males, strong heroines, bar brawls, and sizzling romance, than read Rough Justice!
Happy Reading!!!
